TASTE OF MILWAUKEE TOUR: This guided tour gives you a great overview of Milwaukee learning about the city's history as well as the current progress. We'll see the major influence the European immigrants had on the city's architecture, business, and culture earning nicknames such as "Brew City", "Machine Shop to the World" and "City of Festivals". As we travel throughout the city, we will see some of the iconic Milwaukee sites such as City Hall, the many architecturally significant churches, the former breweries that made Milwaukee famous, and the magnificent Milwaukee Art Museum. We'll also travel along the Lake Michigan shoreline seeing the beautiful waterfront views and Lake Drive mansions. We'll make a stop at the Milwaukee War Memorial" overlooking Lake Michigan where we will hold our ceremony to honor those Bang shipmates who departed on eternal patrol since our last reunion.
12:00 Noon Lunch will be provided at the Lakefront Brewery's Beer Hall, (of course - this is Milwaukee!) considered Milwaukee'smost fun brewery tour started by two brothers in 1987, followed by a brewery tour which includes beer samples, or soda, and a souvenir glass.
12:45 PM
We'll make a stop at the Milwaukee Public Market for an opportunity to pick up Milwaukee area treats and our guide will also provide each of us with a "Milwaukee Goodie Bag" of tasty Milwaukee treats that define the city's different neighborhoods which can be enjoyed along the way or taken home to savor later.
4:00 PM Return to the hotel.
Second day of Reunion Tours
Wednesday, July 29 $140, 9:30 AM Departure
MILWAUKEE - A GREAT PLACE ON A GREAT LAKE:
10:00 AM Our day begins with a home tour of one of Milwaukee's beloved beer barons. We'll learn about Captain Frederick Pabst, one of the men who made Milwaukee famous, seeing his beautiful Flemish Renaissance Mansion. Designed by George Bowman Ferry and Alfred Charles Clas, construction at 2000 Grand Avenue lasted for two years at a cost of just over $254,000. During the years of the Pabst family’s ownership, the house was the scene of many fine parties and receptions, a wedding and, in the end, Captain and Mrs. Pabst’s funeral. Captain Pabst passed on New Year's Day 1904 and Mrs. Pabst died on 1906. After the Pabst descendants sold the house in 1908, it became the archbishop’s residence and the center of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee for more than sixty-seven years. When it was sold in 1975, the mansion was nearly torn down to make way for a parking lot for a neighboring hotel. After a three-year crusade for its preservation, it was spared demolition and went on to become an award-winning house museum. The Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 21, 1975.
11:30 AM Next, we'll enjoy a German Sampler Plate lunch at Mader's German Restaurant, a favorite on Milwaukee's Old World Third Street since 1902.
Mader's Restaurant is an authentic, Bavarian restaurant that offers delicious Old World German food specialties and giant pretzels. The restaurant serves unique German beers and cocktails, presented in a modern and vibrant way. Mader's Restaurant features a stunning $3 million collection of art, vintage chandeliers, suits of medieval armor, ceramic beer steins, and antiques. The restaurant was recently voted "Most Famous Restaurant in Wisconsin!"
1:30 PM
After a delicious lunch of German delights we will board the Edelweiss Sightseeing Boat. Some say the name Milwaukee derives from a Native American word meaning
"Gathering Place by the Waters" and a great way to see Milwaukee is via the waterways. We'll sail through downtown Milwaukee and the revitalized Historic Third Ward neighborhoods on the Milwaukee River and the Port of Milwaukee into Lake Michigan with beautiful views of the Milwaukee sky-line. The boat offers indoor and outdoor seating. A cash bar is available on the boat. Note: Edelweiss is cashless so only credit or debit cards are accepted. All major cards are accepted.
3:30 PM Our luxurious motor coach departs for our hotel and the ever popular hospitality room!
